About Us
Combined with over 22 years of trading in tribal and contemporary art in Papua New Guinea through Beyond Art, Joycelin Leahy is also a trained journalist, a mother, a strong advocate of  Pacific women’s issues and a strong believer in developing self-reliance through entrepreneurship.

For years she has given her time to promote small business amongst youth and women in Papua New Guinea and has been an ambassador for small business and for art in Papua New Guinea, the Pacific and throughout the world.
Joycelin has also worked for the media with government and large corporate organizations.

Having grown up in Wagang, a small fishing village north of Lae, Papua New Guinea, Joycelin has lived the art, song and dance of her people and grew up understanding the richness and the essence of the rich culture of a Melanesian society.

Her respect for the protection of tribal treasures is seen in her close working relationships with museums and her love for art is shown in over 20 years of her own work in textiles through Kalem Kollections which she developed, built and ran successfully for over two decades.

Beyond Art was another pet project that grew from the high demand for a marketplace for Papua New Guinea art. She also worked in the performing arts with the then National Theatre Company and Waigani Arts Centre in Port Moresby in 1980s and 1990s.

This website could not be possible if it wasn’t for the extraordinary tribal and contemporary work of the Pacific people with whom Joycelin has built relationships over many years. Beyond Pacific Art is a mere stage provided for Pacific artists to let their own light shine through.
